How to Pick Your AFL Preseason Team
The AFL Preseason is finally here, which means that the real stuff is just around the corner. The AFL JLT series consists of matches over three weeks, where each team will play two matches and have one bye. Preseason matches are an excellent way to find out some smokeys for your Draftstars teams throughout the season. Established players will be trialed in new positions and rookies will be given plenty of game time, which should allow you to get a bit creative with the teams you choose. Here are some tips for nailing your AFL Preseason team.
Pay Attention to Team News
Knowing exactly who is playing and where they will be playing is the best way to ensure that your pick the best team. If you pick a player who only plays a quarter or a half of the game, chances are that your team will not feature at the top of the leaderboard. Try to listen to coaches’ interviews pregame, or watch out for announcements on twitter and you will have the best chance to maximize your scoring potential.
Look for Outside Players
AFL preseason matches tend to be uncontested affairs with fewer stoppages. They also really open up towards the end of the games as player’s fatigue. Choosing outside runners who will be able to run out four quarters can really give you a leg up in preseason matches.
Hungry Rookies
It is also a good idea to pick players who have the most to prove. Finding a fringe player or a mature aged rookie who is pushing for a spot in round one can be a good way to separate yourself from the masses who only choose the established stars of the comp.
No Salaries, No Worries
With all of the AFL Preseason games on Draftstars, all of the players cost the same, so you do not have to worry about fitting a team into a salary cap. All you have to worry about is choosing the best nine players. You will want to use some out of the box thinking when selecting your team as you will need a point of difference in your teams if you want to take out the top prize.
Don’t Fall For the Hype
Is there a player that every media outlet claims is ‘training the house down’ or ‘burning up the track’ that you don’t rate. Don’t get sucked in by media hype for a player who is not that good. Chances are they will be highly owned in the contest and not deliver a good score.
