AFL $50,000 Saturday Cheat Sheet
We are living the dream at the moment with footy action seemingly non-stop. Seven out of the last nine days has seen AFL action, and don’t we just love it. There are five games on today with the highlights including Geelong taking on Sydney as well as resurgent Kangaroos taking on the struggling Power. There is a huge $50,000 up for grabs with $5,000 going to the winner.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Saturday competition
Forward
Jeremy Cameron ($13,100)
The Giants will be looking to bounce back after finishing their last game with a draw against the Saints. Cameron played well in that game, finishing with 19 touches and 2 goals. He could easily have a big day out here against the Lions at home, which often sees high scoring games during the day. The Giants should be able to run up a big score and Cameron should be able to kick a bag against the Lion’s porous defence.
Chad Wingard ($10,000)
The Power have dropped two games in a row after a blistering start to the season and it has coincided with a drop in form from Wingard. He has struggled in his last two matches, averaging 50 DS points compared to 73 DS points in his previous three. The Power will be desperate to get back to winning ways against the red-hot Kangaroos and the fast track that is Etihad Stadium should suit Wingard perfectly.
Midfield
Dylan Shiel ($12,500)
Shiel has been okay this season without being at his brilliant best but gets a good opportunity to rack up a huge score against the Lions. Shiel is a good gut runner capable of burning his opponents with his speed and exploding out of stoppages. Shiel should be able to accumulate plenty of disposals around Spotless Stadium on Saturday and deliver his second 100+ score of the season.
Matt Crouch ($12,000)
After missing three weeks with a hamstring injury, Crouch is back and ready to tear it up once again. Crouch is a ball magnet who was the sixth highest DS scorer last season. He returned 123 DS points in his only full game so far this year. He looks a steal at his salary of $12,000.
Jacob Hopper ($11,650)
Another Giant finds his way into the team in what should be a free flowing, high scoring game. After missing the first two games of the year, Hopper has played the last three games and has acquitted himself well, averaging 82 DS points. Hopper plays through the midfield and can find plenty of ball on the outside. Looks for another consistent performance from Hopper and another good score.
Zak Jones ($10,900)
After a slow start to the year, Jones was great last week in the Swans’ disappointing loss, finishing with 27 touches and 101 DS points. Jones is an in and under bull who carried the Swans struggling midfield last week. He should be able to pick up plenty of tackles and touches against the Cats who like to play a contested game.
Defence
Luke McDonald ($11,350)
The Kangaroos are flying so far this year, playing a fast, free flowing brand of football. They are set up by a resolute defence, led by Robbie Tarrant and Luke McDonald. McDonald has been great providing a lot of run and carry from the backline. He is averaging 75 DS points this season which is a good return for a half back. He should be able to continue his good form against the Power, who struggle playing at Etihad.
Jed Bews ($8,350)
Bews has been up and down for the Cats this season but struggled last week against the Power. Bews only managed 39 DS points, but in fairness, the ball did not spend a lot of time in the Cats back half. Bews should be able to generate some run against the Swans, who go into the game with an undermanned forward line, missing their two good key position players, Franklin and Reid. Bews looks like a good value pick.
Ruck
Jonathon Patton ($10,000)
The big General has had an inconsistent start to the year, returning one score of 123 DS points, with as well as three scores under 50 DS points. Patton gets into this team not for his rucking. But for his goal scoring ability. The Giants should be able to run up a big score against the lions, with Cameron and Patton both making this team. They should be able to stretch the Lions and really take over the game. He looks like a good point of difference for this contest.
