AFL SATURDAY $50,000 CHEAT SHEET
As the byes wrap, the second half of the season kicks into gear. Gone are the joyless weekends spent trying to find something to do in the absence of footy. And back are the deliberations with loved ones as to why the Gold Coast and Collingwood game needs to take centre stage on the living room TV while the GWS v Hawks game is streaming on your laptop. There’s no two ways about it, AFL is a staple of an Australian winter weekend. Draftstars knows, and this week we have an action packed $50,000+ Saturday competition with a top prize of over $5000.
Adelaide welcome back a host of stars against the injury ravaged Eagles and could surprise many with a win over the Grand Final fancies. Meanwhile, fellow Premiership chance, Port Adelaide, are in Melbourne to face Carlton in what they will use as practice for finals at the G. In that game, ex Melbourne captain, Jack Trengove will make his debut for the club that gave him a lifeline. And the Giants, without star forward Jeremy Cameron, take on the Hawks with a mind to putting forward their finals credentials. Full round footy is back and we could not be more excited.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Saturday competition
Forward
Jordan De Goey ($12,090)
De Goey is a walking headline at the moment. During the week the local rags read “Godfather offer,” and “Five million dollars over five years.” No matter who you are, that sort of talk would seriously put some air in your tyres. Combine that with the fact Gold Coast have no real match up for him when he plays forward and it’s conceivable to expect a DS score of 100+, backing up his average of 101.5 over the last two games.
Peter Wright ($9,200)
Playing in his first game of the year last week, two metre Peter hinted to everyone of what he is capable of. Two goals and 11 possessions produced a score of 72. With an emphasis on Tom Lynch, Wright has the capacity to get on top of the undersized Pies’ backline. Expect him to build on last week, as he increases his fitness base, and register another handy, reasonably priced score.
Midfield
Patrick Cripps ($15,420)
Cripps’ last fortnight has been nothing short of astonishing. 38 disposals against the Dockers was backed up by 29 disposals and three goals last week. He’s an outside Brownlow chance (because Carlton can’t win enough games) and he is in absolutely scintillating form. 2018 has seen him go from strength to strength and he will relish the opportunity to go head to head with Port’s hard-nosed midfield. With a DS average of over 127 points in the last two weeks, Cripps is a must have in round 15.
Rory Sloane ($12,410)
After an extended layoff, Rory Sloane makes his way back into an embattled Adelaide Crows side. Last year’s runners up will want to return to their 2017 form against the Eagles and Sloane is the man to take them there. This man is as tough as they come and will leave nothing on the field as he attempts to will his side back into 2018. He is typically a tackling beast, ball winner and goal kicker; the perfect combination to rack up a big DS score.
Isaac Smith ($12,210)
On the back of his exceptional running ability, Smith started 2018 like a man possessed, even making his way into Brownlow calculations. Unfortunately for him, and the Hawks, his form has dipped. However, as his game is built largely around his propensity to run his opponents ragged, he has the capability to run himself into form. Coming up against a besieged Suns’ side devoid of confidence, Smith has his best chance to turn it around.
Wil Powell ($5,000)
Taken at pick 19 in the 2017 draft after bolting up draft boards after impressive performances in the local competition, Powell has taken longer than he would have liked to make his debut. That’s all in the past now though, as Powell comes into the side to take on Hawthorn. Known for his elite running capacity, he has that advantage over other 19 year olds. Expect him to use his skillset to find the ball with ease and rack up a score that belies his meagre price tag.
Defence
Kade Simpson ($14,540)
In round 15, Simpson will join elite Carlton company as he plays his 300th game for the club. Always a competitor, he has proven time and time again he is one of the most reliable players in the competition. His style of play endears him to fans all over the AFL and nobody would begrudge the excellence of the career he has put together. He’ll stand up, once again, and turn in a vintage performance.
Jack Trengove ($6,400)
Taken at pick two in the 2009 draft, Trengove’s talent is undeniable. Though, through injury and bad luck, his career has taken a path of obscurity in which he was never able to fulfil his potential. The Power gave him a lifeline at the end of last year and he will want to repay them however he can. In what will be an emotional return, Trengove, at just $6,400 should return a competitive DS score.
Ruck
Paddy Ryder ($12,490)
Ryder comes up against a Carlton side without its number one ruckman. For a man in insatiable form already, he would be licking his lips in anticipation. Despite a lean week last week, his three game average is still over 90, but this round is a different story. Expect Ryder to have his best game of the year on Saturday.
