AFL SATURDAY $50,000+ CHEAT SHEET
Despite the season nearing its climax, it is anyone’s guess how the final eight will look. There are four sides playing on Saturday that need to win to consolidate themselves as contenders.
Of those sides, only GWS will enter their game against the Tigers as underdogs, while Hawthorn, the Demons and the Bombers face sides with crushed finals aspirations. As such, every team will be tenacious in their approach. Expect the stars to stand up and will their sides over the line, while some lesser known names try to consolidate their place in a team on a finals mission.
A typical AFL rich Saturday is at hand this week. Drop what you’re doing, get your phone, download the Draftstars App and have a look at the huge $50,000+ prize pool on offer while first place has the chance to get their mitts on just shy of $5k.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Saturday competition
Forward
Toby Green ($11,000)
Love him or hate him, Toby Greene is an out and out star of the competition. Playing only three games so far this year, the 2016 All-Australian has been sorely missed. Not only by his team, but by spectators of the game. His game mimics that of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde narrative and his best football is insatiable. Expect him to come back with aplomb and exert himself on the game, in any way he can.
Jeff Garlett ($7,780)
After a coach dictated layoff from round five to sixteen, Garlett returned last week against the Dockers, kicking a goal and finding his feet at AFL level again. He is expected to exert undying forward pressure, a feature of the modern game. And those that are successful in the pursuit reap the rewards. If he can do what is asked of him, he’ll definitely justify his DS selection.
Midfield
Jack Viney ($13,060)
Unfortunately for the Demons, Viney has been limited to seven games this year. Encouragingly though, he has strung three together and is really starting to find form. His three game average is over 100 and will relish the opportunity to drag his side further into finals territory. Such is the payer he is, don’t expect him to have a down game for the rest of the year.
Dustin Martin ($12,780)
Okay, so, Dustin Martin is the best player in the competition, vindicated by his Brownlow victory last season. He had 30 disposals and banged through two goals last week. And he is priced at just $12,780. There really is nothing more to say. Get this man in your side. Forget about his diminishing returns from last year. He is capable of astronomical DS scores. Get on him at this price. Back him in.
Lachie Weller ($11,150)
Crossing over from the Dockers last year at a heavy cost, Weller has not lived up to expectations. However, he backed up his 2018 high score of 116 two weeks ago with a solid output of 87 last week. Playing in a side devoid of polish and class, he adds that element, and, as a result, his teammates want to give him the ball. He is starting to gel within the side and his scores are beginning to reflect it.
Adam Kennedy ($6,400)
Kennedy returns to the Giants after a 435-day break due to a knee reconstruction. Everybody loves an underdog with a hard luck story, and Kennedy has just that. Prior to his injury he was a solid player for the Giants, adding another ball winning component to their backline. If he can accustom himself to the pace of the game early, and win his first big one-on-one, he’ll walk taller and his DS score will burgeon.
Defence
Jayden Short ($11,770)
After continual setbacks due to concussion, Brayshaw has lifted his game to a level nobody thought possible 12 months ago. Four of his last five games have been enormous, resulting in a six game average of 111 DS points. As is the case with Clayton Oliver, Brayshaw will be champing at the bit to steer his side straight against the Dockers this week.
Adam Saad ($9,870)
A strong 2017 season cemented a spot in the Dockers best 22, but this year has been one to forget for the 23-year-old. This Saturday will be just his second game. Consequently, he will be desperate to make an impression and prove to Ross Lyon his spot should not be relinquished. He averaged 16 disposals, a few tackles and 62 DS points a game last year, averages far above his $7,010 pricing. He is an astute pick this week.
Ruck
Stefan Martin ($15,100)
Forget what anyone says. Forget mowing the lawn. Forget dinner with the in-laws. Your number one priority this week is fitting Max Gawn into your Draftstars team. The Sandilands-less Dockers will have no answer for Gawn’s dominance. Not to mention the fact the fan favourite is in insatiable form. The DS world record score is in danger.
