THE HANGOVER: DRAFTSTARS WEEKLY WRAP

The AFL and NRL king is dead, long live the NFL and EPL (and soon NBA) king. With the AFL and NRL already in the rearview mirror, it is clear sport does not stop in Australia. Despite our home grown competitions finishing up last week, we are still gripped by sporting pandemonium.

The first five weeks of the NFL season have been riveting. Typically, the NFL has gone mad. Off-field, Odell Beckham Jnr is potting his coach and quarterback alike then fronting up three days later to put up 131 yards and a TD on eight receptions and throwing a 57-yard TD pass. Meanwhile, the Rams and Chiefs are lighting it up with video game offences and Blake Bortles is Blake Bortling his way through another season calling the plays at Miami.

In the far more sensible EPL, predictability reigns supreme. Can you believe it? It looks like Chelsea and Man City are going to be relegated… said nobody ever. They sit one-two on the table and are followed by stalwarts, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham (where you at United?!). But it’s still great fun. Sig-urd-sson, Sig-urd-sson, Gyfli Sigurdsson scored a 25-yard stunner to lift Everton over Leicester, and Bournemouth sit in sixth!

Draftstars knows Australia is all about, so, they put $25,000+ worth of competitions on over the weekend’s games of NFL and EPL.

In the NFL contest, perrinj left it until the last game to take out the $1,847 purse with the smart selection of Alfred Blue. But it was GdPlayrDude who easily claimed $682 in the EPL competition after selecting five of the top ten scorers over the weekend

NFL $20,000+ MONDAY

Defence was the order of the day in this competition. Four of the ten best value picks were defensive selections but defence is ugly. So let us look to Isaiah Crowell of the New York Jets. Rushing for 219-yards, he actually out yarded quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Josh Allen (211 yards combined) who battled it out in an ugly contest between Tennessee and Buffalo.

Not only were his rushing numbers huge, he notched up 30.10 DS points. Topped only by OBJ, Todd Gurley and James Conner (who all cost at least twice as much), Crowell was the value selection of the week and was selected by only 2% of entrants.

It was a bad week for quarterbacks with Aaron Rodgers topping the list on 28.68 points but going for an asking price of $18,670. However, for the second week in a row, C.J. Beathard provided solid points at a low salary and could be an option going forward.

In week six, don’t look past the Chicago Bears D/ST against Miami. They’ve got major players all across the D-line and the Dolphins just conceded 22 DS points to Cincinnati.

EPL $5,000+ SATURDAY

Bournemouth buried Watford 4-0 and their domination was reflected on Draftstars. Three of their players, Joshua King, Callum Wilson and Asmir Begovic, were in the top ten scorers and King topped all comers with a whopping 31.15 points. Unsurprisingly, King was also the best value selection of the week, costing just $7,940, but was selected by only 4% of entrants.

Hug Lloris was the most selected player with 32 % of entrants choosing him as their stopper. He repaid their faith though, pulling off five saves and keeping a clean sheet on his way to 20.55 points.

Rounding out the top three scorers was the man of the weekend, Gylfi Sigurdsson. Not only did he score what is sure to be one of the goals of the season, he had two other shots on target and played a solid all round game to notch up 19.85 points.

Take a pick out of Mo Salah and Sadio Mané next week week. With Liverpool facing off against Huddersfield (17 goals conceded), Salah or Mané or both, are likely to score and start you on your way to victory.

Don’t forget to join us throughout the week for the several contests on offer and then load up again come the weekend. The NFL and EPL are hinting at special seasons and the NBA is just around the corner, why not amplify the excitement through one of the Draftstars contests?
