BBL08 CONTEST PREVIEW GAME 12: RENEGADES V SIXERS

Fantasy catches win fantasy matches and my spuds couldn’t catch a cold down in tassie last night. I’d be genuinely disappointed if my five year old spilled some of those drops. Our team faded Buttler hoping for early wickets and some Rose magic and we got it, right up until Buttler was dropped and then it was all over. That’s DFS and that’s cricket. Shake it off.
Likely XI’s
Renegades – Ludeman, Harper, White, Harvey, Cooper, Nabi, Christian, Wildermuth, Boyce, Richardson, Usman Khan (Fraser-Mcgurk, Webster)
- Three changes to the 13 with Harvey the likely man to come straight into the final XI. Where he bats is anyone’s guess given the form of Harper and lack of form from Ludeman, the old keeper could slide down to #7-8. Most likely they stick with their top 3 and Harvey comes in at #4 but that whole top 8 for the Renegades can fluctuate.
Sixers – Denly, Edwards, Henriques, Hughes, Silk, Phillipe, Abbott, Curran, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Pope (Avendano, Manenti)
- No changes to the squad but I’d be surprised if Menenti retained his spot in the side. Much more likely to go for the leg spin of Pope or more batting with Avendano at Marvel Stadium tonight.
Selection Committee
With just 210 runs being scored in the first game at Marvel we are looking to the bowlers tonight to anchor our scoring. Agar (0/5 off 2) and Boyce (0/13 off 4) showed last start at Marvel how hard the spinners were to get away and I don’t need much of an excuse to pick the tweakers to start with. Plenty of very good quality players have had their price tag’s slashed which should see a very balanced night of ownership.
Selection
Joe Denly ($13,400): It hurts me to pick him given how reckless he has been with his wicket so far, but he has come down 3k, will open the Sixers innings and should be given 1-3 overs with the ball which makes Denly an almost must-play for mine. Hopefully people are looking at his princely 3-game average of 12.3pts and staying away but I’m going back to the Denly well in a game that is must-win for the Sixers. This guy was player of the series in the English T20 comp earlier this year. there is class there.
Daniel Hughes ($11,000): Looked in great touch before getting a peach of a slower ball from Coleman last start. Again his price has plummeted from 17k two games ago to just 11k. Bats #4 and is a very good chance to be required to anchor this Sixers innings.
Sam Harper ($12,000): Has earnt his spot at the top of the Renegades order. Will be highly owned especially if the Gades bat second but I just really like how solid he has looked. Unlikely to throw his wicket away and those guys are always good to have in your team.
Mackenzie Harvey ($8,000): 18 yr old nephew of Ian is likely to get a run here. Lefty in a top 6 without any. Could very well open with Ludeman or Harper sliding down 1 (or 6 in Lude’s case) but I really think they like White at #3 so I’ve pencilled Harvey in at #4. If he doesn’t play you can take Ludeman or Edwards at this price point.
Mohammad Nabi ($20,800): Normally this salary would be prohibitive for me but with so much value in the batting department Nabi is very affordable still. Very likely to get 3-4 overs and is always a chance to be required with the willow should early wickets fall. It’s his bowling though that has him being selected here. Hoping for a solid economy and 1-2 wickets.
Stephen O’Keefe ($19,400): There won’t be too many teams with both these spinners in there which appeals to me. Has Ludeman’s number big time here. I’m expecting more of the same from SOK on a pitch that will suit him. 60-80pts is a solid return.
Cam Boyce ($15,100): Has almost doubled in price from his first game and has an average of just 34.5pts which hopefully means he will be largely overlooked tonight. 0/13 off his 4 overs on this pitch last start is too good for me to refuse though and the Sixers have been playing spin woefully.
Final Thought
We want our spinners to be economical and take a wicket each and that will put this team well and truly in the game. Then we just need the youngsters from the Renegades to pitch in and the Sixers batting class to stand up. More than happy to fade D Christian tonight, I don’ expect to see him bat nor bowl much. Going to be a great spread of ownerships given the excellent pricing. Don’t sleep on Pope if he plays either, will be sub 5%. Tommy Cooper is also one that can win you a contest at very small ownership tonight.
