BBL08 GAMES 44 & 45: Tuesday Double
The Redundant A’Postrophe is a must-play tonight for the Hurricanes. He should be over 70% owned and will absolutely crush the Heat.
The Re-cap
Just pathetic from the Scorchers last night. My new TV was very very lucky it didn’t get a remote throw straight through it. Mitch Marsh captains about as well as I run the beep test. Just a shattering late-night loss for those of us who were relying on top-order heroics from Perth for a cash. Double header this afternoon to turn that frown upside down.
Likely XI’s
Game 44: Hurricanes v Heat @ Bellerive Oval
Hurricanes – Short, Wade, Jewel, McDermott, Bailey, Milenko, Faulkner, Freeman, Archer, Rose, Meredith (Moody, Doolan)
- Young off-spinner Jarrod Freeman is a good chance to come in for Botha in a like for like replacement but with Short bowling so well they may opt for Moody to come in for some extra pace. Watch final teams.
Heat – McCullum, Bryant, Lynn, Renshaw, Alex Ross, Pierson, Cutting Swepson, Lalor, Doggett, Mujeeb (Prestwidge, Kuhnemann)
- Expect the Heat will be unchanged. There is little more they can do in terms of personnel, they just need to actually play well. As always Cutting will get elevated if a wicket falls with 4-5 overs to go, especially if the Heat are chasing
Game 45: Sixers v Strikers @ SCG
Sixers – Phillipe, Hughes, Vince, Henriques, Silk, Edwards, Curran, Abbott, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Pope, (M. Edwards, B Manenti)
- Likely to be unchanged but could opt for young Jack Edwards to come back into the side to bolster batting. Tough to turn down three spin options though at the SCG but with so much left handed power at the top for the strikers it is a risk to take three slower bowlers.
Strikers – Carey, Weatherald, Short, Ingram, Wells, Khan, Valente, Neser, Siddle Laughlin, O’Connor, Stanlake (Lehman, Valente)
- Siddle returns for Agar. Expect O’Connor to also return on what will be a spin-friendly pitch. Strikers back to full strength after two poor performances – plenty of value about tonight!
Selection Committee
For the early game we’re going for a sure-to-be-popular Hurricanes bowlers stack. The Redundant A’Postrophe is a must-play tonight. He should be 70% owned minimum. The Heat bowlers are sub-par and without Botha, Short should bowl 3-4 overs. The bigger question is how Chris Lynn will go tonight. I’m hoping that the Hurricanes smash them and that my Ross-Pod can actually play well for once this season.
Team: Short, McDermott, Ross, Faulkner, Rose, Archer, Meredith
In the late game I’m expecting the Strikers to return to form in a big way, batting first and scoring well particularly their top order. Taking both spinners from the Strikers as well as Siddle who is criminally underpriced, I can afford the top 3 batsman for the strikers and I’ve thrown in Silky for a rearguard innings at hopefully pod-ownership levels. If O’Connor doesn’t play I’ll take Short as a bowler.
Team: Carey, Weatherald, Ingram, Silk, Khan, O’Connor, Siddle
Final Thoughts
Two full-blown team stacks today. It’s risky business but the great thing about a team stack is there is plenty of positive correlation baked in particularly in the bowling economy rates. If playing multiple teams don’t sleep on a O’Keefe and maybe pairing him with Jono Wells who could have plenty to do and early if O’Keefe does his work up front.
