AFLW R4 – $5,000 SUNDAY CONTEST
This afternoon’s double header is likely to be impacted heavily by wind so when taking forwards make sure they are ones that get up the ground if it’s not coming down to them, or can contribute in other ways.
The Bulldogs let us down a lot last night and Blackburn’s injury compounded the problem further. Monster games from Kiara Bowers and Erin Phillips in the non-rain-effected late game dropped us out of the cash.
Selection
Kate Gillespie-Jones ($11,550): I’m not sure how the salary cappers have missed her but I wont be – KGJ is averaging over 80pts in three games. Really productive role of CHF / backup ruckman means her tackle counts are up there and she is getting hit up on the lead. Against a better defence today but still way too cheap. Almost first picked.
Yvonne Bonner ($10,490): Left-field selection here. Expect a lot fo the field to take her compatriot Cora Staunton but I am more than happy with Bonner. Looks on the cusp of taking a game apart and no team presents that chance like Collingwood. Can kick a few here today at great ownership.
Jamie Stanton ($15,610): With Emma Kearney only $600 more it is easy to see Stanton going underowned this afternoon. Averaging 6 tackles, 5 marks and 17 disposals. That’s a bankable 70pt floor.
Bec Beeson ($12,580): Giving Beeson another go due to her price tag. The Collingwood midfield makes opposition onballers look great and Beeson has been threatening to have a ceiling game all season. Averaging 60 so there is a really safe floor, but I just suspect we will see a bit more productivity out of her this afternoon against a Pies outfit likely to be doing a lot of chasing.
Courtney Gum ($14,140): Disregard the average, Gum is capable of big 75-80+ games and this one looms as her best chance this season. Likely to be very underowned with many coaches picking off averages not potential. Expecting a big one.
Taylah Davies ($5,000): Taking a risk on the netball convert at minimum price and likely single digit ownership. Has a great tank and again, they are playing the Pies. Davies also allows us to spend up in the ruck which not a lot of teams will be able to afford to do. Hoping for a 40+ game on debut.
Emma Grant ($7,150): Racing the clock to be fit for this one so do check final teams, with No Brazill down back we’ve tried to identify a few Collingwood defenders who can pick up the slack. Grant is one of them. An outside player who gets good mark/kick points, Grant will need to pick up her defensive play here and will recognize this as a game where he teams really needs her to stand up.
Stacey Livingstone ($8,440): Should take the kick-in’s for Collingwood and generally see more of the footy in Brazill’s absence. Disregard the 15pt game and assess on the other two weeks where she hit mid 40’s. Solid return at that price in a very shallow position.
Lauren Pearce ($14,790): Seems strange that a ruck coming off a 21-disposal game will be a POD but that’s what Pearce will be this afternoon given her price tag and alternative options. The field will likely go to King which makes me want to pay up for Pearce who knows her team needs her to win the ruck battle to have a chance. Completely different player this season and I’m riding the wave of confidence she will have coming off a career game last week.
