AFL $30,000+ SUNDAY CONTEST
Great little three-gamer to end Round 7 with plenty of value selections on offer for the savvy selector.
We’re starting with two min-priced players who I think are set for value games and inserting plenty of class into our midfield to hopefully go deep into the cash this evening.
Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for Sunday’s $30,000+ contest.
FORWARD
Tim Kelly ($14,090):If he doesn’t cop the Devon Smith tag there is a big value game here for Kelly in the absence of Selwood there will be more of a role for the in-and-under players like Kelly today. If you have the mulah for Danger he is probably the better play though.
Taylor Garner ($5,000):Ok, so i’m not happy about this but a cold-hard look at Garner’s 2017 campaign gave me confidence to pick the kid. 18 games averaging 70pts with a big ceiling if he is on (6 games over 80 with one monster 129pt game). I expect him to be low owned given he has played something like 55 games of a possible 130 in his career. Worth the punt in my opinion.
MIDFIELD
Zach Merrett ($15,670): Cats don’t tend to tag too hard so coaches should get bang for their buck selecting Merrett here. Has 150+ upside and when he doesn’t get tagged the floor is superb.
Rory Sloane ($14,060): I wanted some exposure to the late game so I took the two prime movers who I expect will matchup on each other at least in the stoppages.
Nat Fyfe ($14,120):With Fyfe and Sloane in the side i’m really banking on both players not really playing much defence on each other – not many sides will take them both along with Merrett so if this midfield does fire we’re going straight to the pointy end.
Liam Stocker ($5,000): Can’t leave the kid out. Averaged 20+ disposals and 5+ tackles in TAC Cup. Blues say he will play across half back but more than likely he will spend time onball with Marc Murphy across half back. Will hit value no problems (or Blues fans will revolt at selling the farm for a kid who can’t find it)
DEFENDERS
Cam Guthrie ($11,160):Really wanted Brodie Smith here who i think is a much safer selection but with Tuouy, Stewart and Clark all in this Cats side, and no Selwood, Guthrie will get pure onball mins here. There is a 100+ game here for him, but fingers crossed he is not asked to shutdown Merrett!
Dale Thomas ($11,500): No Kade Simpson and no Nic Newman for the Blues makes Thomas a solid play today. Likely to take majority of the kick-in’s as well as mop up junk half back / back pocket stats all game.
RUCK
Andrew Phillips ($9,010): Again, not terrible pumped about Phillips here but he is the clear chalky value selection and given I’ve taken risks elsewhere, i just wanted to go where the field is likely to be in this spot. If he gets through the game he should hit value or close enough to it to not kill us.
