The Late Cut: BBL $15k+ Strikers vs Heat
The excitement continues with last season’s minor premiers, the Adelaide Strikers taking on the Brisbane Heat. A lot of runs can be expected here as two of the more lopsided teams face off against each other. Both teams have stacked batting lineups, however their bowling may let them down. Expect plenty of sixes and a big Clear the Fence payout. Draftstars will be running a $15,000 contest with $3,000 going to first place.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL Strikers vs Heat $15K+ competition:
Wicketkeeper
Ben Dunk ($8,000)
Whilst most of the entrants will be choosing the Heat’s Brendon McCullum, Ben Dunk is the smarter play. After making the switch from Hobart in the offseason, Dunk will most likely be opening the batting and will look to dominate the average Heat bowling attack in the power play. He is also certain to be behind the stumps, whereas McCullum is more likely to defer the responsibility to Jimmy Pierson. Which means that Dunk is more likely to supplement his run scoring with some catches.
Batsmen
Joe Burns ($13,400)
The discarded test opener, Burns will be extremely keen to remain in the selectors mind’s with a strong performance in BBL06. The powerful opener was quite good for the Heat last season, averaging over 34 with the bat across his three games. The presence of McCullum who will be opening with Burns will allow him to get his eye in and build an innings.
Travis Head ($27,950)
Head exploded on the scene in last season’s Big Bash with a breathtaking hundred on New Year’s Eve and was rewarded for his outstanding form with a call up to the Australian ODI team, where he was ultra impressive. Head Cleared the Fence an incredible twenty times last season, averaging over 42 at a strike rate of 154. Head gets the nod over Brisbane’s weapon, Chris Lynn, due to the fact that Head will likely bowl a couple of overs due to the Strikers lack of slow bowling options.
Bowlers
Samuel Badree ($17,250)
The West Indian leg spinner is one of the most consistent T20 bowlers in world cricket. He carried the Heat’s average bowling attack last year taking 9 nine wickets with an economy rate of 6.27. Badree will be looking to put the pressure of the explosive Strikers batting lineup and to take wickets in order to keep his team in the game.
Wes Agar ($8,000)
The younger brother of Australia’s best ever batting number eleven, Agar has been a revelation for South Australia in this season’s Shield games. He can bowl at solid pace and is definitely worth a punt at his salary of $8,000. The only concern is if he will make the starting lineup, so make sure you update your teams before the first ball is bowled. If Agar misses, Mark Steketee is a worthy replacement.
All Rounder
Ben Cutting ($14,800)
Although Cutting would be typically classified as a bowling allrounder, he is often more damaging with his bat in T20 cricket. Cutting provides a decent wicket taking threat with the ball, but it is his big hitting that gets him in the team here. He averaged over 22 with the bat at a strike rate of just under 150. If you cannot afford Kieron Pollard in your lineup, Cutting is the way to go.
Flex
Alex Ross ($9,650)
It is definitely the right move to choose a batsmen in the flex position for this match and Alex Ross gets the nod here. He is renowned for his ability to score quickly at the death. Ross averaged 24 at a strike rate of over 143 in BBL05, making him amongst the elite finishers in the competition. Ross has switched teams from the strikers to the Heat for this season, so he knows the conditions of his old home ground very well.
