The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Renegades v Stars
The Big Bash continues tonight with a mouthwatering Melbourne Derby seeing the Renegades hosting the Stars at a sold out Etihad. The Renegades got the chocolates in the last match, aided by the Duckworth-Lewis method and will be looking to cement their place in the top four, whereas the Stars will be looking to break into it. Draftstars will be running a $8,000 game for this match, with $1,600 going to the winner.

Wicketkeeper
Peter Nevill ($8,000)
Nevill has had a quiet BBL06 so far, scoring a grand total of six runs in two innings and has not taken a catch yet, but his opposite number Sam Harper has had a similar lean tournament. Nevill makes it into the team because he costs $2,000 less, which frees up precious salary for other players.
Batsmen
Kevin Pietersen ($17,450)
Pietersen was back to his usual self against the Thunder, dominating the Thunder attack, scoring 60 off 37 deliveries. Pietersen showed that he is still a force in T20 cricket and that he is here in Australia to make runs. Pietersen loves a big stage and there are fewer bigger than a sold out Etihad Stadium. He would be disappointed with how he was dismissed in the reverse fixture, so look for him to fire up tonight.
Luke Wright ($14,500)
Wright has been his usual self at the top of the Stars order, consistently making runs in quick time. Wright has had three innings for scores of 48, 44 and 25. Wright shines in the derby, last year he scored a century to lead the Stars to a victory.
Bowlers
Brad Hogg ($12,000)
Hogg is a freak. He is undoubtedly at the top of his game, confusing batsmen at the ripe old age of 45. Even after plying his trade as a cricketer for 25 years, no one can pick his wrong’un. Hogg was on fire against the Stars, taking 3/22 off four overs. The Etihad pitch is usually more receptive to spin bowling which looms ominously for the stars batsmen.
Sunil Narine ($17,600)
The signing of Narine has been a real coup for the Renegades this season. Last year, their bowling attack struggled, they took the second fewest wickets in the competition and as a result, were not in a position to win many games. Narine has added a lot to their attack in his short time with the Renegades, he has taken 4 wickets, but also set up a lot more with batsmen taking excessive risk against other bowlers because the threat he poses. Narine also opened the batting last match, he might do that again, which would give him an opportunity to get a lot of points.
Allrounder
Glenn Maxwell ($20,750)
We have seen all sides of Maxwell so far this tournament, the brilliant, the poor and the just okay. On his day Maxwell is a brilliant cricketer, he is an explosive batsmen, and accurate bowler and an elite fielder. The thing with Maxwell is that you will never know which Maxwell shows up. Hopefully the real Maxwell shows up tonight.
Flex
Tom Cooper ($9,250)
Although he is picked as a specialist batsmen, Cooper has been shining with the ball so far in BBL06. He has been given the job of opening the bowling with his crafty off-spinners with the aim of snaring a wicket and keep the runs down, which he has done, taking 2 wickets for the tournament with an economy rate of 4.25. Cooper has also been promoted up the order following the injury of Bravo, so he gets more of an opportunity to score some runs.
