The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Sixers v Renegades

yabbamakesthecall-1024x768

The perfect cure for ‘Mondayitis’ is here with a great Big Bash match, the Sydney Sixers are taking on the Melbourne Renegades. The Sixers defeated the high flying Heat in their last match, the only team to have done so in BBL06, whereas the Renegades were very disappointing, losing to their cross town foe, the Stars. Draftstars will be running an $8,000 game for this match, with $1,600 going to first place.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $8k+ Sixers v Renegades competition:

Wicketkeeper

Brad Haddin ($13,500)

Haddin was the game-changer in the Sixers’ last match, coming in when the game was on the line, he blasted 32 off 13 balls steering the Sixers to victory. Haddin is not in his favoured role at the top of the innings, however he will bat in the top five, maybe even higher after the departure of Roy and Billings. Haddin will also get a decent opportunity to bat as the Renegades high class bowling attack will likely take some early wickets.

Batsmen

Cameron White ($12,650)

Cameron White has been in great form so far in BBL06. He is a classy T20 batsmen, able to construct an innings and let other players hit around him. White has scored over 37 in three out of his four innings in BBL06, averaging 48.5 DS points. White should get a solid foundation for him to play his game, provided by the power at the top of the order from Finch.

Nic Maddinson ($10,350)

Test reject Maddinson looked like he was starting to regain a bit of form in his last match against Brisbane, scoring 24 off 15 balls. Maddinson is a classy player, who was obviously lacking a bit of confidence in the test team. He has dominated the Big Bash in previous seasons and three more games for the Sixers (plus finals) gives him a chance to regain his mojo and try to squeeze on the plane to India.

Bowlers

James Pattinson ($18,600)

If you had asked Pattinson what would have been his best case scenario for his return, it would have likely been to bowl fast, take wickets and get through unscathed. That is exactly what he did against the Stars. Pattinson took 3/44 from four overs, and although he was expensive, he still scored an impressive 111 DS points. There is no reason why he cannot rip through the Sixers as well.

Sunil Narine ($17,600)

Narine has been utilized by the Renegades at the top of the order as a pinch hitter. Presumably this is to take the early pressure off Aaron Finch, who is not expected to slog from ball one, as well as lengthen their short batting lineup. The points you receive for Narine’s batting are basically bonus points because he usually scores enough from bowling alone, Narine has five wickets from four matches in BBL06. He is essentially a second allrounder, which is a great reason to pick him.

Allrounder

Sean Abbott ($15,750)

BBL06’s leading wicket taker, Abbott has taken 12 wickets in five matches, including 5/16 against the striker on New Year’s Eve. Abbott has averaged 124 DS points in his last three matches, a truly incredible achievement. Whilst he has not had as much of an opportunity to score runs as he might have liked, he is capable of hitting sixes if required, as he showed against the Heat when he hit the match winning runs.

Flex

Tom Cooper ($9,250)

Cooper is another player who acts like an allrounder, yet is not classified as one. Cooper will bowl at least a couple of overs in the power play as well as bat in the top six, providing you with more opportunities to score points. Although Cooper copped a bit of tap against the Stars, his has been very stingy with his bowling so far in BBL06. Cooper is a great option in the flex position.
