The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Heat v Scorchers
After a heart stopping game last night, the Big Bash continues tonight with the top of the table Brisbane Heat hosting the Perth Scorchers. Brisbane smashed them in the reverse fixture, thanks to an unbeaten 98 from superstar Chris Lynn. Lynn has been called up to the national team so he is unavailable for this match, the Scorchers have lost Mitch Marsh to the national team as well. Draftstars will be running an $8,000 game for this match with $1,600 going to first place.

Wicketkeeper
Brendon McCullum ($18,500)
Although he was comprehensively overshadowed in the heat’s last match by his ‘Bash Brother’ Lynn, McCullum still managed to hit an impressive 50 off 31 balls. He has been in impressive form throughout the tournament, only scoring below 30 once and scoring with an amazing strike rate of 177. McCullum will have extra responsibly thrust upon him in this match without Lynn, but he is most definitely up to the task.
Batsmen
Joe Burns ($12,500)
The former Australian test player has been starved of opportunity so far in BBL06 due to the heroics of players higher in the order. Lynn and McCullum have been in such good form that Burns has only really had one proper opportunity to bat, where he scored an elegant 51 off 33 balls. Burns will probably bat in the spot made vacant by Lynn’s call up, so he will be able to build an innings in this match.
Ashton Turner ($11,250)
Turner has been consistently playing at a high level so far in BBL06. He has been batting well in the lower order, but it is his bowling which has impressed the most. Turner has 3 wickets so far in BBL06 but it has been his economy rate of 6.3 that has impressed the most. There have been a few calls to include Turner in future Australian squads, so he will be keen to continue to perform in front of a national audience to strengthen these claims. At a salary of $11,250 he represents good value.
Bowlers
Andrew Tye ($17,000)
Tye was fairly disappointing in his last match against the Heat, but so was every Perth bowler. Tye copped a beating from Lynn and McCullum, finishing with figures of 0/30 off his three overs. Before that, Tye was starting to work into some form, taking five wickets in his previous three matches. Perth will need all of his renowned variety if they are to slow the Heat’s damaging batting lineup.
Tymal Mills ($14,250)
Mills has been brought into the heat squad to replace the injured Samuel Badree. Mills is an impressive fast bowler, capable of bowling at serious pace. He has had a few injury worries in the past 18 months, but he looks very suited to bowling on a fast and bouncy Gabba wicket. Mills has recently been playing in the NZ version of the Big Bash where he has been taking wickets consistently for Auckland, so he comes here in decent form.
Allrounder
Hilton Cartwright ($14,850)
Australia’s latest test player, Cartwright made a solid debut in Sydney against Pakistan. For many he was a surprise selection, but he showed he can bat, scoring 37 in his one opportunity to bat. Cartwright is replacing Mitch Marsh for the Scorchers, which he should be used to, after indirectly replacing him in the test team. With the long Scorchers batting lineup looking a little bit thinner, Cartwright will play an important role in the top five, as well as bowling his four overs.
Flex
Jimmy Peirson ($10,550)
Peirson has been brilliant at the top of the heat batting order, averaging nearly 22 at a strike rate of 151. He has been able to play well with McCullum, getting the Heat off to their usual fast start in the power play. Peirson may have to bat deeper in this match to cover the loss of Lynn, which is he more than capable of doing. He is great value because he will be behind the stumps as well, which mean that he can score a few extra points with catches and stumpings.
