The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Strikers v Renegades
The Big Bash is back after a night off with a battle of the cellar dwellers. The Strikers play host to the Renegades. The loser of this match will fall a game behind all other teams and be eliminated from finals contention and the winner will retain some slim mathematical chance. Draftstars will be running an $8,000 game for this match, with $1,600 going to first place.
Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $8k+ Strikers v Renegades competition:
Wicketkeeper
Ben Dunk ($14,750)
Even with the struggles of the Strikers, at this stage, Dunk would be in the team of the tournament for BBL06. He has scored 267 runs at a strike rate of 170, which is the second highest tally (behind Chris Lynn) and hit the third most sixes (behind Lynn and McCullum). He also rolled his arm over in their last game, picking up a wicket. Dunk is the obvious choice at the wicket keeping position.
Batsmen
Tom Cooper ($15,100)
Cooper was pivotal for the Renegades win their last match with both the bat and ball as the Renegades lost the unlosable match. Cooper belted 53 from 24 balls when he guided the Renegades to a score of 222 and took two wickets with the ball. He finished with a monster total of 174 DS points. He has averaged 90 DS points in his last three matches and definitely deserves his spot in your lineup.
Cameron White ($12,650)
The ever consistent White made yet another 30-odd runs in his last match, finishing with 54 DS points. He averages just over 46 for the tournament, and it you take away his first game where he scored one point, the average jumps to 55. This level of consistency is metronomic, and it provides an excellent platform to ensure that your team is in the money.
Bowlers
Ish Sodhi ($11,500)
The Kiwi leggie was simply brilliant in the Strikers last match, hitting a six whilst batting, forcing a run out in the field and taking 2/25 with the ball. Sodhi bamboozled the Stars with his variety, bowling the in-form Peter Handscomb cheaply. Sodhi’s international experience holds him in good stead for taking on the well credentialed Renegades batting lineup and at the very least, he should be able to restrict the runs.
Brad Hogg ($12,000)
Hogg copped a bit of tap against the Hurricanes, getting smashed at 11.25 runs per over, but still managed to score 56 DS points thanks to the two wickets he took. Hogg has seven wickets for the tournament, but he has not been very consistent, he will either score big, or not at all. The strikers batting lineup has really struggled this year outside of Dunk and Hodge, so maybe tonight wil be the night where Hogg rips through them.
Allrounder
Thisara Perara ($19,550)
In his two matches so far, Perera has shown his quality with both the ball and the bat, but not both in the same match. In his first match, he took two wickets and in his last match, he scored a quick 28 runs. Hopefully tonight is the night where he puts it together. He should have had enough time to acclimatize by now and the Renegades need him to deliver.
Flex
Brad Hodge ($14,250)
Hodge is coming off his worst performance of the season to date, he scored 17 runs at a strike rate of 77. He finished with 17 DS points, his previous worst was a very respectable 40 DS points. Just like Cameron White, Hodge bats during the middle overs where the match intensity is at its lowest, allowing them to construct an innings before hitting out when they are set.
