AFL SATURDAY $50,000+ CHEAT SHEET
In a 4-game slate where anything can happen, we’re trusting that a balanced approach can get it done.
Playing DFS guns like Stephen Coniglio (picture above) and/or Tom Rockliff and hoping they go bananas is one way to take down a GPP, but it is not the only way. Selecting a side without a weakness and hoping for just a few of them to stat up is a solid approach to these big GPP contests, especially if you are building to avoid missing the cash altogether.
Today much of our build is centred around the Power and a few players we absolutely loved from last week. Carlton is likely to maintain it’s free-flowing style which makes this game particularly appealing. Justin Westhoff’s 250th also gauarantees that Port will put in for four quarters even in a blowout.
Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for the Saturday $50k
FORWARD
Jack Watts ($10,610)
Absolutely loved what I saw from Watts R1 playing behind the ball and reading the flight, using his silky skills to good effect to start Port’s chains from half back. Will be riding very high on confidence and is well worth a look here. Because he is Jack Watts, i’m not sure the field will be as keen to jump on as they might another, more consistent player so there remains hope of a sub 15% ownership bonus too.
Brandan Parfitt ($10,170)
Got going late against Collingwood and finished with 22 disposals, a goal and six tackles. Love his all-round game so i’m going straight back this week hoping for better. There are minutes for him in that Geelong midfield with Gaz playing permanent forward. Kelly had his game last week, no reason why Parfitt is not the one to return that big 120 here.
MIDFIELD
Karl Amon ($7,390)
Must give a shout out to the Fantasy Insider Pod team, particularly Roody who specifically touched on Amon in this week’s episode (see below for full R2 show). Playing behind the ball in defence, Amon started like a house on fire, hitting 30 fantasy points by quarter time. Faded a bit as the game wore on once Piggy Rockliff and the captain Boak went into overdrive but at home here in the milestone match for Hoff, at that insane price tag, there is a lot to like about Amon. I’d completely forgotten about him which is a mistake many might make. A great pay-down play today, solid floor and has 10-12x value upside here.
Dom Sheed ($13,650)
Going to feast tonight in the west for another milestone match. Shannon Hurn is playing game 250 which means a four-quarter effort for the home side who will be out for redemption after a R1 loss to the Lions. Sheed had 38 touches in that game, can repeat here for a 10-11x value game.
Sam Walsh ($10,540)
For five months leading up to R1 he was all anyone was talking about, but for the last five days no one has mentioned his name. I’m not sure what more people were expecting from him, but an 87pt game in R1 that featured just 1 tackle is, for a kid who is a known tackle machine, more than good enough to stay on. I’d be surprised if that R1 score can’t be built on and if that is the case, we are getting into 9-10x value territory.
Travis Boak ($14,350)
Some may say i’m chasing R1 points, and I absolutely am. 34 disposals, 9 marks and 8 tackles. That’s as well-rounded and elite as it gets in fantasy land. No Wines and Ebert in the middle means Boak has to literally lead the way for the kids to follow him. Normally I don’t play Boak after a great game, but in 2019 I can see that R1 score being much closer to the norm than an outlier.
DEFENDERS
Ryan Burton ($10,610)
Our fourth and final Power player, we loved Burton last week and no reason to jump off here in a great matchup and game situation. 26 dispsosals and 5 tackles are elite numbers for a defender in dfs but the 2 behinds and 3 frees against help mask what could easily have been a 110-115pt game.
Andrew McGrath ($11,810)
Giving McGrath one more chance at what I hope will be very low ownership after a R1 84pt effort. When Essendon play poorly, McGrath is not at his best so if you like the Bombers chances of actually stringing together some possession and playing semi-well, then McGrath needs to be in your conversation. Have a slight concern that Ridley’s omission will result in McGrath returning to his back pocket role but his 100+ upside is there if conditions align.
RUCK
Dawson Simspon ($10,440)
Taking safety in what is a pretty putrid ruck section for a four-gamer. Liked Simpson’s game last week in conditions that did not suit his penchant for tackling. This will be a hot footy at Optus and big Dawson can tap and tackle his way to 80+ which could make him the value option in this slate in the ruck.
