AFLW R3 – $5,000 SATURDAY CONTEST

$5,000 up for grabs in a two-game slate that has a relative dearth of defenders, plenty of bargain forwards and some premium, popular mids that everyone will be wanting to squeeze in.

The team was duded by updates last night and just missed out on the cash  but we get a good chance to respond here with a few outside-the-box selections.

Selection

Steph Cain ($11,120):The field will be tempted to take Freo and Giant forwards today against the lesser teams but we’re taking as many mids as we can fit in. Cain has been very consistent from her two game and I’m expecting nothing less third up. 50-60pts regardless of how the Pies play which is less than I can say for any Freo forwards who may underperform.

Bec Beeson ($12,410): Like Cain, has been super consistent with 18 disposals in both games, and they are games where the Giants have been a little under the pump. Im expecting some of the bigger names to cop a tag again so Beeson could be required for more midfield work here. 60+ you’d expect.

Kara Donellan ($16,300): Big POD play for this side today, Donellan has been tagged and then had a defensive assignment so far in two starts, but I can’t see why they would need her to tag (or get tagged) here. Expecting an uptick from an player with a great floor already. Her price point combined with her 55pt average will ensure her ownership is sub 30%.

Jess Dal Pos ($13,830): Dal Pos was a no-go last season but her 2017 was elite and it looks like she has returned to her tackling, ball-gathering best this season. 17 disposals and 5 tackles against the Kangaroos who are a dominant side, I’m expecting those numbers to push 20 and 6-7 here against the Blues, again at appealing ownership.

Maddie Shelvin ($5,000): Did not play a game for the Dees all season in 2018 but smashed it for Casey in the VFLW, averaging 16 disposals and 5 tackles per game taking out their B&F. Gets her chance here in a midfield crying out for a ball-winner and comes in at bargain price. Could be the cheapy play of the day.

Madison Prespakis ($11,530): As long as the Blues midfield is full of taggers and spuds and Prespakis, I’ll keep taking the latter. Her role is just to follow the ball and get it. Averaging 61pts at a great price.

Lauren Brazzale ($8,150): Brazzale is averaging just under 55pts from her two games and her role is impressing me. Playing a lot of time in the backline helping the Blues come out of defence, her 4 tackles and 5 marks last start highlights she gets used coming out and gets busy when it comes in (which is often). Will be popular though.

Ash Brazill ($14,820): Speaking of popular, Brazill should be over 80% today given the lack of defensive options and her 86pt 2-game average. I have some concerns that Freo may simply run or deliver around her like they did to Lutkins but with no other options jumping out, and salary to spend, Brazill appeals enough to absorb the risk. Expect a 50-60 from Brazill and you’ll be much happier.

Eliza Hynes ($6,830): Cheapy ruck to finish with Hynes surviving the mass culling at Collingwood’s selection. No Layton and no Fowler means Hynes will solo ruck for as long as she can today, against an undersized ruck duo of Laurie and Houghton. Averaged 25 hitouts in the VFLW last season and he 5 tackles last start are gold for a ruck.
