AFLW R7 – $500 FRIDAY CONTEST
The prize pools have dropped off but that just means a bigger edge for those who study up! If you haven’t been watching this season, let me catch you up on these teams – GWS are poop and the Cats aren’t. Forgive my very technical dfs jargon there but it is quite important to point out these things pre-build. Where possible we are on the Cats tonight!
Selection
Phoebe McWilliams ($9,500): The Giants have been pretty horrible all over the park this season but where they have really stank it up is against leading forwards. The only thing standing between McWilliams and a 3-goal 60+ effort tonight is how her body holds up as she had a pretty bad hand injury two weeks ago and is carrying a few other niggles into this. Worth the risk at the price.
Sophie Van De Heuvel ($6,530): The #2 in the 2019 draft has gone massively under the radar this season because of the position she has been playing, that half forward role is a dfs killer and it has really curtailed her output. Her U18 year she averaged 18 disposals, 3 tackles, 4 marks and almost a goal a game and with the ball likely to spend a fair bit of time in the Giants defence I can see Vanda (I just made that up, I’m not typing her full name twice) nudging up towards that 40pt game which at her bargain price is excellent value.
Ellie Brush ($8,660):Named as a mid in dfs but she has been playing deep intercepting defensive role of late and playing it quite well due to the amount of practice she is getting tracking the ball coming in. Last-start 70pt effort looks her ceiling game but at her price tag we will be more than happy with a 45pt game.
Richelle Cranston ($14,450): The first of the Cats ‘big 3’, with the Giants midfield both sharing fantasy points and sucking a fair bit, I’m taking the bankable 65-70pts from the three Cats mids and hoping none of the Giants mids decide to turn it on. I suspect they will be too concerned with stopping Rocky and her two young mates.
Renee Garing ($15,120): Tackle machine. Averaging 9/game which gives us a very solid 36pt fantasy floor to work from. Was on track for a fantasy ton last start until he head clash with Dana Hooker. Can clear 70pts here in what I expect to be a very contested game, at least for the first half.
Olivia Purcell ($14,630): Few teams will have Garing and Carnston and even fewer will take the third premium Geelong midfielder. Purcell has the highest ceiling of them all but her floor is also down in the 40’s so buyer beware. Can see her having a blinder here at really low ownership.
Melissa Hickey ($9,980): The salary cappers have still not found the cats captain so we are going right back there again tonight. Lock her in for a fantasy 50.
Madi McMahon ($10,170): we wanted Meg McDonald here but the cap started to bite so a pivot to her defensive protégé appeals. McMahon has two 60+ efforts in last 4 games and here specifically she will get one of the Irish imports who like to play on and/or do stupid things every chance they get which puts Maddi in the game for tackles and holding the ball frees.
Erin McKinnon ($10,520): Despise this selection but it’s the best of a bad bunch with Hoare and O’Connor slated to share the ruck duties for Geelong. McKinnon did notch up 7 tackles last game but that looks an outlier. Not expecting more than 40pts.
