Defenders

Rory Laird – Adelaide – $14,750

Laird had the ball on a string against the Giants in the season opener on his way to a career-high 40-disposal game. He was handed the ball at every opportunity by his team mates, finishing with 21 handball-receives – the second-most of any player in the competition.

Forwards

Lance Franklin – Sydney – $14,100

Franklin was one of few Sydney players that performed well last week, recording his best Round 1 score since 2012 (110). Buddy has a terrific recorded against the Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium, scoring 115 and 109 points respectively from his past two games.

Mitch Hannan – Melbourne – $6,400

Hannan was a shock inclusion for the season opener after failing to play any match across the pre-season. He was lively in a forward role, finishing with 16 disposals, seven marks, four tackles, two goals and 88 points. His job security is more than sound in the short term.

Midfielders

Alex Neal-Bullen – Melbourne – $9,500

Neal-Bullen’s VFL numbers from last year are a clear indication that he is suited to the fantasy game, averaging 112 points from 17 games. He starred against St Kilda on the weekend, finishing with 23 disposals, five marks, six tackles and 110 points.

Tom Rockliff – Brisbane – $17,300

Rockliff scored 46 of his 127 points in the final term last week against the Suns. He also has the second-highest projected score of any player in the competition this week (124 points) – scoring a massive 179 points when he last came up against this week’s opponent Essendon last year.

Adam Treloar – Collingwood – $16,150

Treloar boasts an average of 109 points at the MCG as a Collingwood player, which includes scoring 106 points in his only match against the Tigers (2016). He started the season in strong fashion last week against the Bulldogs, posting a decent haul of 125 points.

Dyson Heppell – Essendon – $14,600

The newly-appointed skipper led the Essendon charge last week with a round-high of 156 points. He boasts the highest predicted score of any player in the competition this round (125) and has scored 127 points in his most recent trip to the Gabba.

Jack Redden – West Coast – $10,550

Redden kept Dom Sheed out of the side last round and looks poised to keep his spot after a big win. He is a proven performer in fantasy and is coming off a solid 111-point game against North Melbourne. Redden has made a name for himself as a relentless tackler – applying eight last round.

Rucks/Forwards

Jarrod Witts – Gold Coast – $10,200

As the sole ruckman at the Suns, Witts presents tremendous value, especially if picked as a forward. He won 37 hitouts last round against the Lions, the fifth-most of any ruckman in the competition – attending 80 ruck contests – ranked equal second.

Rucks

Max Gawn – Melbourne – $14,750

Gawn recorded the highest hitout win percentage of any ruckman in Round 1 (77%), finishing with 13 disposals, four marks, 49 hitouts and 111 points. With the elimination of the third man up stoppage hitout, he looks to be one of the main beneficiaries of the rule change given his height.
