BBL08 GAME 26: HEAT V RENEGADES
This Gabba deck has runs in it and the Heat bat way too deep to trust Renegades economy rates so taking batsman as much as possible looks a really safe play for cashing.

Not only did the Scorchers drop important catches for our team, but they slid Cartwright down a notch in the batting order to combine to keep us outside the cash. Horrible bowling changes from Turner also cost us. Walk it off, rub it down, get back out there.

Heat – McCullum, Bryant, Lynn, Renshaw, Pierson, Cutting, Ross, Pattinson, Mujeeb, Swepson, Doggett (Lalor, Burns)
- Burns was dropped last game which surprised me a lot. No idea what they do with Renshaw/Ross/Burns but one will sit here. Expect Doggett gets the nod ahead of Lalor.
Renegades –Harris, Harvey, Harper, White, Nabi, Christian, Webster, Wildermuth, Boyce, Richardson, Usman Khan, (Webster, Holland)
- Finch out for Harris in. Should open with Harvey. I’d say Cooper’s due a rest given his lack of form with Whitey coming back in and batting #4. Webster could bat #5 or #7 depending on situation (if he plays for Cooper).
Selection Committee
Were picking for an absolute runs-fest at the Gabba tonight AND we’re fading Chris Lynn! Taking six batsman tonight on a pitch that should be very very friendly for the clean hitters. Our lineup does need the Renegades to lose their openers early so we’ve taken Mujeeb as our only bowler. Three all-rounders takes our bowling exposure up to 10-12 overs but its all about the runs. Top order runs for the Heat and middle/lower order runs for the Renegades.
Selection
Brendan McCullum ($13,600): I’m back on the BJ train after a last-start breakout 88pt game. He finished on 160% strike rate so that score could have been 25pts higher had he finished on 161%. That 56 run knock last start on a tricky deck is the perfect way to get BJ’s confidence up and hearing what he said about his shot selection and getting into his innings better, I just really like him here.
Max Bryant ($13,900): Again, good deck. In-form. This kid can play. Will enjoy the pace attack of the Renegades. If he bats 4-5 overs he will make value. Hopefully he turns one of his starts into a big score.
Mohammad Nabi ($13,500): Like Nabi for his batting tonight but if he gets a cheap over early against maybe McCullum then great. His batting I think is very underrated and this Heat side is not a good bowling team. Nabi can take them down big time and should be relatively under-owned.
Beau Webster ($8,800): if Webster plays (big if) he should bat #5. Unfortunately he could be highly owned with players trying to squeeze I a cheapy and take Lynn, but that can’t be helped. How were building our team, we are targeting that middle/lower order for the Renegades so he fits that bill.
Ben Cutting ($16,900): Cutting is my POD play for tonight. With so much focus on Lynn, the field should miss Cutting but if Bryant and McCullum start well and then Lynn fails, Cutting is a strong chance to be elevated up the order. Will absolutely tee off against this bowling on this deck.
Dan Christian ($17,200): When you fade Chris Lynn you need to take advantage in ownerships and DC is our play on that front. Almost no teams will have Lynn plus Cutting AND Christian so pairing the two all-rounders in our bowlers looks a great way to get a edge on a Lynn-heavy field. The Renegades lower order batting is an area we are targeting, and with the power hitting of the Heat, there is a good chance that a few of their front-line bowlers go the journey early which opens the door for Christian to bowl 2-3 stump-to-stump overs.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman ($15,700): If we want early Renegades wickets to fall we have to have some Heat opening bowler exposure and Mujeeb fits that nicely. Up in price now which should limit his ownership to high 30’s but I can see a nice 2/24 68pt game here.
