BBL08 GAME 22: STRIKERS V SIXERS

“Instead of trying to pick the eyes out of the whole game, I’m taking 16 Strikers overs and anchoring Carey in at the top then hoping for wickets in general.”

The Re-cap

Fergy Fergy Fergy. Killing us mate! A golden duck to the in-form (and massively under-owned Callum Ferguson kept us out of the cash in the early game but we rallied in the late game with a #19 place finish for a solid collect.

Likely XI’s

Game 22: Strikers v Sixers @ Adelaide Oval

Strikers – Carey, Weatherald, Short, Ingram, Wells, Lehman, Neser, Khan, Siddle, O’Connor, Stanlake (Agar, Valente)

  • Siddle in for Laughlin (rested) should be the only change here. Very settled lineup.

Sixers – Denly, Avendano, Henriques, Hughes, Silk, Phillipe, Abbott, Curran, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Pope (Edwards, Manenti)

  • Pope comes into the 13 and is a very solid chance to play in place of Manenti. No reason why the Sixers don’t play their prodigious leggy on a deck that will see a little bit of turn.

Selection Committee

Figuring out which Striker takes Laughlin’s death overs is crucial tonight. Expect that job goes to Neser. There are plenty of ways to approach tonight’s game, and great builds for those who think the Sixers will struggle to take early (or any) wickets. But I just think there will be regular wickets falling tonight so instead of trying to pick the eyes out of the whole game, I’m taking 16 Strikers overs and anchoring Carey in at the top then hoping for wickets in general.

Selection

Alex Carey ($18,000): It’s a lot to pay but It just might be Carey’s turn tonight. His final game before aussie duties so I just think he will want to go out with a bang. Picks up a few points in the field too so there is some floor there at least if he fails.

Jon Wells ($9,000): At his price tag he only needs 30pts to hit value and given his ownership is always sub 15% I just love rostering him in the hope he sees 7+ overs in the middle. Even if he only scores 10 and takes a catch he is just sitting under value and hasn’t killed your team.

Jordan Silk ($14,100): This team is built on early wickets from the Strikers which has Silk coming in very early. Hopefully Khan has just finished his spell because I have grave fears that Silk has a golden duck in him if he comes in against the Rash tonight. Price has climbed so could be under-owned? Phillipe a very brave pivot play here.

Michael Neser ($11,300) I don’t like him as a player at all, think he bowls a fair bit of junk, but in this team his 4 overs are crucial and tonight especially we could see his role change to death bowler which means cheap wickets hopefully.

Rashid Khan ($22,300): You just have to pick him against a Sixers team that has not played spin well this season. Need a 2/20 game to hit value but there is no reason why he cant. Price tag is very steep so hopefully he is sub 40%.

Peter Siddle ($14,800): Another player who could benefit from Laughlin’s absence in terms of when he bowls, Siddle has reinvented himself as an economical T20 bowler and given his price tag I don’t see how he is over 20% tonight. Last start 118pt MOM at this ground too.

Liam O’Connor ($9,900): We told you the kid could play and he delivered first up with a super 10x value game. Hoping for a repeat here but like Wells, his price tag is such that he only need 1 wicket to not kill you as a selection.

Remaining Salary $600

Final Thought

Carey is the anchor here. It’s all on him to pump out a 50+ score so if he fails we might be pushing it uphill to cash, but with Wells there and 16 overs of Strikers bowlers there is still enough point of difference in this side. If Carey goes big we’re in with a huge shake.
