BBL08 GAMES 43: Scorchers v Renegades
This team has gone for the Finch fade but if taking multiple lineups definitely consider stacking 6 or 7 batsmen.
The Re-cap
With Worrall not playing we had 8k to reshuffle last night so teams that swapped to Renshaw made a nice cash but those who took O’Connell or Ross just missed the cut line. The good news is that the game played out along similar lines as predicted. Onto Perth tonight for back to back.
Likely XI’s
Game 43: Scorchers v Renegades @ Optus Stadium, Perth
Scorchers – S. Marsh, Klinger, Bancroft, Turner, M. Marsh, Cartwright, Coulter-Nile, Tye, BehrenDorff, Quadir, Kelly (Hobson, Guthrie)
- Expect to see Klinger back at the top of the order tonight. Mitch Marsh and Ashton Turner can both bowl (as can Cartwright for that matter) so the Scorchers don’t need a 5th front line bowler. But this is the Scorchers and they have made stupid selection decisions all season so make sure to watch final teams closely.
Renegades – Cooper, Finch, Harper, White, Harvey, Nabi, Christian, Tremain, Boyce, Richardson, Gurney (Webster, Mennie)
- Renegades should be unchanged tonight. I really liked the movie from Boyce up the order a few games ago and I’d be surprised if we don’t see something similar tonight, possibly Nabi opening with Finch? If not expect Cooper opens and Harvey drops down to #5
Selection Committee
Going right back to the Shaun marsh well on what looks a great Optus pitch. Tempting here to go for a full team of batsman but I have real concerns about Finch early here v Behrendorff and if he goes cheaply I can see the Scorchers getting a look at the Renegades middle-lower order within the powerplay.
This is definitely a side that is more suited to the Scorchers batting first and making good top order runs but it is also a team that can do well in reverse.
If the Scorchers take early wickets this team will do well, and over the stretch of BBL08 the Scorchers at home have done just that. NCN far too cheap whilst Bancroft can’t be that bad three starts in a row.
Quadir the pod again, he should have been 1/5 off his first over. Hoping the field avoids him en masse and he bobs up with a nice little 88pter.
Team: Marsh, Bancroft, Nabi, Harvey, Behrendorff, Coulter-Nile, Quadir
Final Thoughts
The pitch in Perth proved very difficult for teams in the first few games this season but in the last few matches the runs have come thick and fast so it is a little tricky to know what to make of it. The other variable is the collective form of the Scorchers. If their opening bowlers can snare Finch early I can see the Scorchers being dominant. This team has gone for the Finch fade but if taking multiple lineups definitely consider a major batting stack which is very doable with the price tags of Mitch Marsh, Cooper, Christian etc.
