The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Renegades v Hurricanes
We are back at Etihad stadium tonight for another night of Big Bash. The Melbourne Renegades are hosting the Hobart Hurricanes. The Renegades are on the cusp of the top four, a big win here would see them leapfrog the Stars into fourth, the Hurricanes have the same number of wins as the Renegades, but have a significantly worse net run rate, they also need to win by a considerable margin to keep their finals hopes alive. Draftstars will be running an $8,000 game for this match, with $1,600 going to first place.
Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $8k+ Renegades v Hurricanes competition:
Wicketkeeper
Ben McDermott ($8,000)
McDermott came into the Hurricanes side last match to replace the out of sorts Sangakkara. He batted quite well, scoring 31 off 21 balls batting at number 3. The Hurricanes’ top order has been extremely hit and miss so far in BBL06, so hopefully McDermott can add some consistency to it. At the basement salary of $8,000 he is well worth the risk to find out.
Batsmen
George Bailey ($18,250)
Bailey was brilliant in his last match against the Thunder, scoring 69 runs off 54 deliveries. Bailey would have thought at the start of the Big Bash that he would not be playing with the Hurricanes in this match, but rather he would be with the national ODI team, but that is not the case. Bailey will have a chip on his shoulder and have the extra motivation to prove that he still has what it takes to play for Australia. Look for a big innings from Bailey tonight.
Cameron White ($12,650)
Cameron White has been in very consistent so far in BBL06, scoring a total of 159 runs at a strike rate of 135. White is a limited over specialist, throughout the course of his career he has excelled in the shorter formats of the game. He will be batting at 3 or 4 tonight, depending on whether they continue the experiment of Narine at the top of the order.
Bowlers
Brad Hogg ($12,000)
After a brilliant start to the tournament, Hogg has regressed slightly in his last two matches. He has not taken a wicket since the Melbourne Derby on New Year’s Day, but tonight is his night to get back into form. The Hurricanes batting lineup have been hit and miss this year and because they are relatively inexperienced, they will not have had the opportunity to figure out Hogg and his deadly wrong’un. Hogg is in a good position to rip through their middle order and grab a bag of wickets.
James Pattinson ($18,600)
Pattinson has had two matches since he has come back from injury. He was brilliant against the Stars, picking up three wickets, but was poor against the Sixers, going at an economy rate of 14. Pattinson is a real wicket taking threat, he bowls with extreme pace and if fully fit, should be playing in the national side. Although he is fairly expensive, he looks likely to pick up a couple of wickets and justify his salary.
Allrounder
Dan Christian ($17,250)
Surprisingly, Christian was not given the ball until his fourth match in BBL06. He responded by taking 5 wickets in what is one of the best bowling spells in any of the Big Bashes. He has been bowling his overs in every match since, averaging voer 100 DS points since he was handed the ball. Christian also bats in a decent sport in the order, coming in to close out the innings. He is the perfect allrounder to choose because he is involved in all facets of the game.
Flex
Tom Cooper ($9,250)
Cooper continues to open the bowling for the Renegades and he is doing a brilliant job. In his last match against the Sixers, he conceded just one run. He is also an explosive batsmen, who comes in to finish off the innings. He was involved in a good partnership with Callum Ferguson in the last match, where Cooper contributed 39 off 24 balls. He is essentially another allrounder and is great value at the salary.
