AFL FRIDAY $40,000+ MAGPIES V POWER
To Grundy or not to Grundy? That is the big question in this great single-gamer.
This is a really good single game slate in terms of build options and strategy with plenty of lower priced players to choose from and a host of upper range guys who all have big ceilings.
Game script is likely to come into calculations more so than most contests and for mine, I expect this to be a pretty even, low-scoring affair so i am trying to take as many midfielders as I can get whilst avoiding those fowards who rely on goals to pay off their price tags.
Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for the Magpies v Power game to start R7.
FORWARD
Travis Boak ($14,960):Can’t go past the captain in his milestone match especially in a game where he will need to tackle his behind off in order for his team to stay in the fight. Really safe floor and is capable of paying off that big price tag. Like him as a fwd where many pay pay down.
Sam Gray ($9,990):Will be super chalky after two big games but he has been playing great footy and is yet to get a big price bump because of a few low games early on. With no Robbie Gray in the fwd line Sam will need to increase his output which makes him one of the better plays of the contest. Likely 50%+ though.
MIDFIELD
Scott Pendlebury ($13,860):If you are picking him for a repeat of ANZAC Day you will be very disappointed. More realistically Pendles can peel off a 90-110 score here which is nice and safe at his price point. Another who will be really highly owned but his safety comes in continued work rate especially if his team is on the back foot.
Ollie Wines ($13,060):Taking tacklers and in-and-under players appeals to me here so Wines goes straight in. Another player with a pretty safe floor which i think will be important for cashing today.
Dayne Beams ($14,380): Could go under-owned given the players around him and the constant injury concern he seems to be under, but at his best Beams is an absolute prime mover so i’ll take the price drop and hope for a big game.
Karl Amon ($6,560): Price selection here with Amon just way to cheap to ignore. Players just looking at averages will likely dismiss him but his low average is due to an injury in R2. In R1 he had 21 disposals and cleared 60pts. Pretty safe selection for mine. May go overlooked.
DEFENDERS
Jack Crisp ($13,040):Someone i’ll always take in this type of spot, can see the Pies waxing abit down back as they try and control tempo which gives Crisp plenty of opportunity. That combined with his insanely low ownership last few starts makes me very bullish about paying up for a guy with 130+ upside.
Dougal Howard ($7,390): Dougal’s last 3 games have been over 50 with his last two averaging 65pts. They don’t come much safer in terms of floor for a 7k player.
RUCK
Jordan Roughead ($6,560):The field will likely pick Grundy but I can;t go past Roughy here at an insanely low price. Allows me to spread an extra 10k across my midfield which i think is much more likely to pay off than Grundy going nuts against a Port ruck duo who have curtailed opposition rucks so far in 2019.
