BBL08 GAME 32: SIXERS V RENEGADES

The Renegades are lacking wicket-takers & their batting is not clicking, Sixers stack looks the play tonight at the SCG.

The Re-cap

Solid cash Sunday night with the Hurricanes dominating the Stars as expected. It’s amazing hat happens when a team takes their catches – game scripts can actually be planned and executed. Back to back tonight.

Likely XI’s

Game 32: Sixers v Renegades @ SCG

Sixers – Edwards, Hughes, Vince, Henriques, Silk, Phillipe, Abbott, Curran, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Pope, ( M. Edwards, B manenti)

  • Avendano out (officially this time) so Edwards should open again. They kind of have to play the young leggy here in Pope, especially with Henriques up and bowling now he can cover the kid if he goes for runs early but at the SCG it’s his best chance to go well. Expect Manenti to be the one who sits if Pope plays.

Renegades –Harris, Harvey, Harper, White, Cooper, Nabi, Christian, Wildermuth, Boyce, Richardson, Gurney (Webster, Mennie)

  • Richardson straight back into the XI if fit, still a chance that he needs one more and Mennie plays tonight so monitor. I’ll be shocked if White doesn’t play tonight. That top order is crying out for him at #4 to be able to come in and go hard or rebuild depending on the game. They do like Webster down there though so watch teams.

Selection Committee

I have been off the Sixers all comp so far but even without Nathan Lyon, a Sixers stack just makes so much sense tonight. The Renegades are (severely) lacking wicket-takers and their batting has just not clicked. Whoever bats first I expect the Renegades top order to be under a lot of pressure so I’ve targeted Sixers strike bowlers and 3 of the top 4 from their batting lineup who I expect (like Brisbane last Sunday) will make vast majority of their runs.

Selection

James Vince ($13,800): Second man picked tonight for mine. I don’t expect the youngster Edwards to last past the power play so Vince should get as much time as he needs coming in at #3. We faded him first up which ended up being a good call as he made just 28pts but he looked very solid and this Renegades bowling unit, at the SCG, is a very far cry from the Scorchers in Perth.

Daniel Hughes ($16,500): Gets the job at the top again where I think he is much better suited. Price tag has climbed a little in recent weeks so I wouldn’t be surprised if Hughes was 30-35% owned tonight. There is no reason not to pick Hughes here, very difficult to see him failing against the Renegades openers and if he is still there when Boyce comes on he can take this team straight into the cash.

Sam Harper ($11,400): The only Renegades in our team tonight, Harper failed last start (-6pts) but prior to that put in back to back man of the match efforts with the willow. He is in form and should get plenty of time at the crease regardless of what they do with Cam White. He has been knocked down to the lower order though so watch final teams, if he is named at #7 jump off.

Moises Henriques ($16,000): Bowled two overs last start which is great to see, if is their 6th bowler similar to Christian who gets more overs if one of the main guys goes for plenty early on. Comes in at #4 so should see good time at the crease. About to have a big game.

Steven O’Keefe ($18,400): It’s been five games since they were at the SCG so a few may have forgotten the #1 Rule of DFS BBL where the Sixers and the SCG are concerned – always take your SOK to Sydney. Always. Averaging 101pts from two games at this ground so far this season. Can very easily maintain that average against this woeful Renegades top order. Hoping for sub 30% ownership given Christian/Curran’s likely popularity.

Ben Dwarsuis ($13,200): Has a two-game 74pt average at the SCG thanks to a 105pt effort against the Stars. 4 wickets in 8 overs at 6.5 runs/over so far at this ground and is a great pivot away from Abbott/Curran who should both be fairly popular.

Lloyd Pope ($8,500): Our biggest POD play of the night. Comes back into the squad and at the SCG surely they play him. Manenti had a good start but he has gone for plenty lately so there is no harm playing the young leggy, especially not when Henriques can bowl two of his overs should he go for a few. Should be sub 10% owned and if he lands them, he can with us this contest. Hasn’t showed it yet in the BBL but the kid can bowl.

Final Thought

Obviously final XI news is crucial here. There is $2,200 salary remaining so if Manenti gets the run he can be selected but if that happens I’d probably be inclined to shift Henriques down into the bowlers and take a second renegades batsman (White/Webster/Cooper).
