Defenders
Curtly Hampton – Adelaide – $6,400
Hampton provides the Crows midfield with plenty of X Factor. He has been earmarked for a midfield role and been used there across the JLT Community Series, attending a team-high 29 centre bounces on the weekend against Brisbane Lions.
Rory Laird – Adelaide – $13,800
Adelaide’s lack of midfield depth has seen Laird play in middle at times across the JLT Community Series, attending the fifth-most centre bounces of any Crows player. He led the for AFL disposals, and also ranked second for disposals per game among all defenders in 2016.
Forwards
Tom J. Lynch – Gold Coast – $12,450
The Lions gave up more points to key forwards than any team in 2016. Lynch has booted 18.5 from his past four games against Brisbane and dominated at Metricon Stadium last season, averaging 16 disposals, seven marks, three goals and 89 points.
Midfielders/Forwards
Christian Petracca – Melbourne – $10,100
Petracca averaged 16 disposals and two goals across the JLT Community Series and was involved in the second-most scores of any Demons player. He finished with 19 disposals, six marks, four goals and 96 points in his most productive match of the pre-season.
Dayne Zorko – Brisbane – $15,150
Zorko led the competition for tackles across the pre-season with 28 and was a driving force through the midfield. He averaged 104 points across the pre-season, which included scoring a massive 160 points against the Western Bulldogs in JLT2.
Aaron Hall – Gold Coast – $15,050
Hall led the competition for points per game with 124 across the pre-season. He scored 125 points in Round 1 last year, as well as 100+ points against the Lions in both games, collecting 116 and 107 points respectively.
Jack Steele – St Kilda – $11,200
Steele has slotted straight into St Kilda’s midfield, applying 27 tackles across the JLT Community Series – ranked second in the competition. He was everywhere on the weekend against the Swans, finishing with 28 disposals, 12 tackles and 120 points.
Midfielders
Jaeger O’Meara – Hawthorn – $10,000
O’Meara averaged 22 disposals, 7 tackles and 92 points when he last played with Gold Coast in 2014. He also led the Suns for tackles per game ahead of Gary Ablett. He racked up 27 disposals on the weekend against the Power and attended the most centre bounces of any Hawks player.
Marc Murphy – Carlton – $14,000
With a score of 126 points in the season opener against the Tigers last year, Murphy is a super buy. He averages 98 points in Round 1 games across his career, scoring 100+ points in four of his past six opening games of the season, which includes a score of 120+ twice.
Midfielders
Todd Goldstein – North Melbourne – $13,900
Traditionally, Goldstein has struggled against the Eagles and Nic Naitanui, but the Eagles ruckman is out injured. He has been a solid contributor at Etihad Stadium across the past two seasons, averaging 15 disposals, 39 hitouts and 106 points.
