The Late Cut: NBA $5,000 Saturday
With no AFL on this weekend (last time we have to say that for a while) what better way to enjoy your Saturday than taking on the Draftstars’ NBA $5,000 Saturday. With eight matches to choose you lineups from, it looks like a cracking day’s play for fantasy scoring due to the high number of shoot outs predicted. Is this the day that the Big 400 goes off?
Here is a team you may consider for the NBA $5k+ Saturday competition
Point Guard
Marcus Smart ($10,350)
With Isaiah Thomas resting for this game and their game on Monday, Marcus Smart looks well placed to rack up a big score. Smart has been doing well off the bench, scoring double digit points in 5 out of his last 6 matches. Smart and his Celtics come up against the Nets in what will very likely be a high scoring match. High scoring, high tempo matches suit point guards, so look for Smart to score well.
Tyler Ulis ($5,000)
Ulis has been balling out recently and it only looks to continue in the upcoming matches. Ulis started against the Kings last start due to Eric Bledsoe getting rested, something which will possibly happen against the Magic. Ulis posted a double-double last match on his way to 39.25 DS points, which is a fantastic score for someone who costs $5,000.
Shooting Guard
Goran Dragic ($14,450)
Dragic has been flying under the radar a bit, but has been extremely consistent, scoring at least 15 points in every match he has played in 2017. Dragic is coming off a nasty eye injury, but should be good enough to maintain his hot scoring run.
Khris Middleton ($12,100)
The Bucks are flying at the moment, they have won seven out of their last eight and currently occupy the seventh seed in the East. A lot of their upswing in form has come since the return of Middleton, who missed the first half of the season through injury. Middleton has added another scoring option other than the Greek Freak. Against the Lakers, the Bucks should be able to score big, hopefully the game remains close and Middleton plays his full allotment of minutes.
Small Forward
DeMar DeRozan ($14,400)
After a hot start to the year, the wheels are threatening to fall off for DeRozan and the Raptors. Ever since the injury to Kyle Lowry, the Raptors form has been inconsistent. DeRozan still has his nights where he scores big, which he will need to produce here if his Raptors are to win against the Pistons.
Dorian Finney-Smith ($5,500)
After a hot start to the year, the wheels are threatening to fall off for DeRozan and the Raptors. Ever since the injury to Kyle Lowry, the Raptors form has been inconsistent. DeRozan still has his nights where he scores big, which he will need to produce here if his Raptors are to win against the Pistons.
Power Forward
Nikola Vucevic ($13,550)
After his Magic got touched up the Warriors, Vucevic and his team will be looking to bounce back against the Suns. Vucevic should be able to bully starting Suns centre Alex Len and dominate the boards, which should ensure a big score.
Dario Saric ($12,050)
The rookie of the year favourite is continuing his hot form, averaging a tick under 49 DS points over his last two matches. Saric does it all, scoring, rebounding and assisting and is a big reason why the Sixers have improved since their abysmal season in 2015-16. Saric should be able to score freely against the Mavs and deliver yet another good score.
Centre
Marcin Gortat ($10,950)
Gortat is going through a little bit of a slump at the moment, but is due a big game. For the first half of the season, Gortat was a double-double machine, perfectly complementing the outside threat of Bradley Beal, John Wall and Otto Porter. Gortat should be able to control the paint against the poor Bulls frontcourt and deliver a good score.
