Fox Sports: NFL Week 9 Best Buys

Fox Sports LogoNFL Week 9YES, the cheap Chiefs back will see a high-ratio ownership in all contest types on Draftstars, but the ‘inWESTment’ opens up all sorts of avenues.

Week 9 Best Buys runs through some of those, along with the Fox Fantasy Daily podcast.

Fox Fantasy analyst Phil Prior sits down with in-house NFL guru Laurie Horesh, breaking down the Week 9 match-ups, best plays and stay-aways.

QUARTERBACK

Andrew Luck, IND ($16,750)

Sometimes there’s a glaring gun-slinger battler that jumps off the schedule, and when it does, you invest. Luck gets a much more favourable matchup against the depleted Packers, and with a full cache of receivers back healthy, the Colts lonely star will shine bright at sunny Lambeau.

Drew Brees, NO ($17,250)

If the veteran Saint put up respectable numbers against Seatte’s Legion of Fantasy Doom, what will he do against the tank-worthy 49ers? We’ve noted how poor San Francisco fare against #1 wideouts, and with New Orleans they face three in Cooks, Snead and Thomas, all leading to Brees’ big day out.

NFL Week 9

RUNNING BACK

Charcandrick West, KC ($7,850)

Exit Spencer, Enter Charcandrick. Against the Jaguars disheartened (and potentially quitting) run D, slot in the underpriced West, who’s set to rumble in the lead role at Arrowhead. Quietly seeing three targets a week all season, add that to a bell-cow workload and spend salary elsewhere, like…

Ezekiel Elliott, DAL ($10,600)

Elite talent. Elite matchup. Worth the elite price tag against a Browns team that can’t stop the run. Look for the Cowboys to establish the ground attack early and often, with Zeke presenting 25-30 point potential as Dez Bryant keeps the defence from cheating up too close to the line.

NFL Week 9

WIDE RECEIVER

Dez Bryant, DAL ($13,300)

Still not priced up near the elite at the position, Bryant clearly showed the benefit of extended rest on his healing knee. Looking explosive at the catch point, and with Dak Prescott funnelling targets his way, Browns corner Joe Haden won’t be enough to contain Dallas’ prime aerial predator in Week 9.

Donte Moncrief, IND ($10,600)

Back into the lineup and back with a bang, Moncrief saw nine targets on return against Kansas City, and had a second touchdown called back on a holding flag. Against Green Bay watch the healthy-again Colt reclaim the form that had him looming as a breakout favourite entering the season.

NFL Week 9

Willie Snead, NO ($10,900)

While the targets have returned, the red zone touches have not… yet. But after two tough tussles with Seattle and Kansas City, a meeting with the 49ers should spell the end of Snead’s scoring drought, adding the upside to his consistently high PPR floor.

TIGHT END

Antonio Gates, SD ($7,400)

Tennessee are handing over nine catches a game to tight ends, and with breakout rookie Hunter Henry on the pine, the fantasy Gates are wide open for Antonio to stroll through (see what I did there? Sorry.) He may not have many campaigns left, but the Chargers’ Hall of Famer has enough to deliver for you this week, at a nicely discounted price.

NFL Week 9

Delanie Walker, TEN ($10,250)

If you prefer your premium tight ends, Walker’s your guy. The Chargers are without athletic linebacker Jatavis Brown, and while improved their defence is still vulnerable to big targets over the middle. Just keep a close eye on the injury report close to game-time, with the Titan picking up a minor groin niggle on Friday.

DEFENCE/ST

Kansas City ($9,450)

Not often do we suggest defences of the dearer kind, but with the off-target throws Blake Bortles is set to provide Kansas City, the Chiefs boast competition-winning potential. This week the old cliche rings true; sometime you’ve got spend Draftstars money to make Draftstars money.
