NRL $1,000+ Eels v Broncos Line-Up

The Eels and Broncos face off on Friday night at ANZ Stadium as both teams attempt to force their way into the top four. The Eels are red-hot and have won six of their last seven matches, but will be without superstar custodian Clint Gutherson who has injured his ACL.

Here is a team you may consider for the NRL $1,000+ Eels v Broncos competition

Front Row Forward

Josh McGuire ($11,400)

McGuire hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks and this has seen him receive a handy discount for this contest. At his best, McGuire is one of the most dominant forwards in the league thanks to his massive tank that allows him to make tackle after tackle defensively. In attack he is usually a metre eater and a hit up machine who is a no nonsense ball carrier, but last week he managed to cross over for his first try in the last two years. Given he was averaging over 50 Draftstars points per game just two weeks ago, he is a great selection at his price tag.

Siosaia Vave ($8,300)

Vave’s production has improved since re-joining the starting line-up two games ago. In the last two games he’s had 25 runs and has made an impressive 272 metres, which highlights his value to the Eels in attack, while defensively he’s made 16 and 22 tackles respectively. He’s been named to start again this week and should have a similar level of production against a strong Broncos pack.

Hooker

Cameron King ($7,450)

The two options at hooker in this contest present vastly different cases for selection. Andrew McCullough is incredibly consistent and will likely score over 50 points, while Cameron King is cheap enough to free up cash for other positions. Given the lack of cheap options in this contest, King gets the nod despite not showing much flair in attack. His ability to make plenty of tackles ensures that a bad game won’t hurt you too much, while he has some upside if he manages to get more involved in attack.

Second Row Forward

Manu Ma’u ($13,000)

Ma’u was in sublime form prior to suffering a knee injury that saw him play just eleven minutes in round 17 and miss the following two games. He returned last week and was solid, playing 80 minutes, making 139 metres, giving off two offloads and a line break assist. Ma’u has always had the ability to make damaging runs and create second-phase action from an offload, but his defensive efforts have improved in recent weeks as well. If he can continue his two-way play, Ma’u will start to be talked about as one of the most dominant back-rowers in the league.

Tevita Pangai Junior ($8,150)

Pangai Junior was incredible last week for the Broncos, providing them with an injection of energy and skill in just 36 minutes of action. He ended up with four offloads which allowed Brisbane to start getting forward momentum and field position that they were struggling to create without him. He averages the second most offloads of any Bronco this season and will be required to have a massive impact once again as the Broncos take on an in-form Eels forward pack.

Centre

Alex Glenn ($11,750)

Having a back-rower like Glenn available in the centres is ideal, as he scores consistently well and doesn’t rely on massive attacking games to generate his scores. In the last three weeks, Glenn has played the full 80 minutes and is averaging 150.7 metres gained and 32 tackles, providing the Broncos with some workmanlike performances. He will play 80 minutes once again on Friday night and should have a similar impact which makes him the most likely candidate to be the highest scoring centre.

Half

Corey Norman ($12,200)

Despite making three errors and struggling with his kicking last week, Norman stood up for the Eels when it counted and slotted a wobbly field goal to give his side the win. He comes up against his former team this week and will be looking to have a massive game in the absence of fellow attacking creator Clinton Gutherson. Norman rarely has two bad games in a row, which means there is every chance he redeems himself on Friday night.

Wing/Fullback

James Roberts ($13,350)

Jimmy the Jet has been incredible in the last two weeks, cutting through the defence of both the Knights and Bulldogs with his incredible speed. Against the Knights, he scored a brilliant end-to-end try and then he backed it up last week with two tries that came from bursting straight through the defence. His statistical production is immaculate and he leads the Broncos in tries, line breaks and tackle breaks. Coming up against a Parramatta left-edge defence that has been shuffled around in recent weeks, Roberts will be ready to pounce on any holes that open up.

Semi Radradra ($12,900)

Radradra is back to his best after a few average performances earlier this season. He has scored a try in each of the last three weeks, has made eight line breaks in that time and is averaging seven tackle breaks as well. His metre eating ability makes him more consistent than most wingers, while his finishing is unquestionable. He leads the Eels in tries, metres gained, line breaks and tackle breaks, and is almost impossible to stop in full flight, so the Broncos will have their hands full on Friday night.
