NRL $1,500+ Rabbitohs v Cowboys Line-Up

The Rabbitohs and the Cowboys face off in Cairns on Sunday afternoon in what should be a fantastic contest. The Bunnies are in good form, winning two of their last three before narrowly going down to the Roosters last week while the Cowboys would’ve won five in a row if not for a heartbreaking golden point loss to the Storm in round 15. The Cowboys will go in as favourites, but with three of their stars backing up from Origin, the Rabbitohs could easily cause an upset.

Here is a team you may consider for the NRL $1,500+ Rabbitohs v Cowboys competition

Front Row Forward

Jason Taumalolo ($16,850)

Taumalolo is the premier attacking forward in the competition at this stage, leading the competition in metres and leading the Cowboys in offloads and tackle breaks. His running game is so tough to stop and is better than ever at the moment, with the big man averaging 240 metres per game in the last three games. In a contest with the likes of Sam Burgess and Angus Crichton there are plenty of options to spend the bulk of your money on, but Taumalolo has the best combination of form and health out of the three at the moment.

Thomas Burgess ($10,350)

Burgess has continued to be a solid performer for the Rabbitohs, providing them with productive runs through the middle and solid defence. His running game is industrious and no-frills; he has just four offloads for the season and no line breaks, but regularly clocks over 100 metres. As such, he doesn’t offer much upside, but his consistency in banking Draftstars scores between 30 and 40 is valuable at his reasonable price tag.

Hooker

Jake Granville ($9,850)

After playing just 36 minutes due to a face cut against the Panthers, Granville is priced very reasonably in this contest. The premiership winning hooker has been solid this season for the Cowboys, providing them with quick service out of dummy-half and hard-nosed defence through the middle. His tackling numbers ensure that he always scores reasonably well, while his passing game always allows for the possibility of try assists and line break assists.

Second Row Forward

Scott Bolton ($11,300)

In the absence of Matt Scott, Bolton has been fantastic for North Queensland this season with his incredible work ethic and motor providing great leadership for his younger teammates. He leads the Cowboys in tackles and is undoubtedly the rock of their defence in the middle. In attack, he sits behind only Taumalolo in metres gained for the season and he ran 182 metres from 19 runs last week. Bolton’s consistency is unrivalled in this contest and at just over $11k, he is the best value forward in this contest.

John Asiata ($7,500)

The versatile Asiata has settled back into the front-row in recent times after being used in the halves earlier in the season. When starting at prop, Asiata averages 41.4 minutes per game and 28.6 Draftstars points, which may not sound like a lot, but is more than handy considering his price. Given he scored 38.6 just a fortnight ago on the back of 136 metres and 20 tackles, he is in reasonable form and should be a good option for a cheap price.

Centre

Bryson Goodwin ($11,050)

Since moving into the centres in round ten, Goodwin has been outstanding for the Rabbitohs. In six games in the position, he’s scored three tries, made two line breaks, averages an impressive 5.5 tackle breaks per game and 108.2 metres per game. This has resulted in a Draftstars average of 44.2 points per game which is phenomenal for a centre. Given his recent form, the Rabbitohs will be kicking themselves that they didn’t offer Goodwin a longer deal which would’ve stopped him from heading to England next season.

Half

Michael Morgan ($14,550)

Even though he was playing out of position on Wednesday night, Morgan was fantastic for the Maroons at left centre where he got off an offload to assist on a Valentine Holmes try. At club level Morgan has been outstanding as well, scoring two tries and having a hand in two others from halfback against the Raiders last week. With Johnathan Thurston out for the rest of the season, the playmaking burden falls squarely on Morgan’s shoulders and based on what we’ve seen so far, he’s certainly up to the task.

Wing/Fullback

Justin O’Neill ($9,850)

Even though he still hasn’t found the try line this season, O’Neill has almost been back to his best since getting dropped from the Maroons. His running game is back and he’s breaking tackles and looking dangerous again, which is all resulting in better Draftstars scoring. In the past five weeks, he’s averaging 127.6 metres and 3.2 tackle breaks per game and he’s made two line breaks as well. Coming up against a potentially shaky Rabbitohs left edge defence, O’Neill should be primed for another good performance.

Aaron Gray ($7,550)

Gray has been quiet this season after a breakout season last year that saw him score four tries for City against Country. This means that he presents value in Draftstars thanks to his lack of form and massive upside. Last season he scored the second most tries at Souths and had the third most tackle breaks and line breaks. Clearly he has plenty of attacking upside and after his signing on with the Sharks next season became public this week, now is the perfect time for him to put in a big performance.
